Summary:

A long time ago there were many Tayutai (which i assume to be a word synonymous with spirits) that destroyed the lands. Fortunately, due to the combined efforts of a monk and a Tayutai, the Tayutais that were causing harm were sealed away. In present day, Yuuri is in his garage working on his friend Ameri’s bike with his friend Sankurou watching. Apparently Ameri has  purchased a beat-up moped and is having Yuuri get it into working condition. Yuuri’s father comes into the garage and informs his son of some trouble at the school. Later that evening Yuuri goes to his school to investigate a large Tayutai seal located on a construction site at his school, but before he can look any more into it; Kisaragi Mifuyu, a member of Flawless shows up and inquires why Yuuri is there. She’s apparently came to the site because she heard a student was sneaking around; Yuuri tries to explain himself, but is misunderstood in part because of som Tayutai on Mifuyu’s shoulder. Apparently Yuuri can see them but Mifuyu can’t, so it looks like Yuuri is trying to hit on her; which results in Yuuri getting struck down by Mifuyu’s bokken. Later that night, Yuuri prepares to do an exorcism and Sankurou and Ameri accompany him since Yuuri’s dad is out drinking with Ameri’s dad. At the bar, Ameri’s dad is asking Yuuri’s dad if it’s ok to leave everything to Yuuri. To which Yuuri’s dad says it’s fine since Yuuri has a lot more talent than he does.

In front of the Tayutai seal Yuuri starts the ceremony, and the guardian deity Kikurami Kaminohime appears; calling Yuuri’s chanting familiar and nostalgic. Kaminohime praises Yuuri’s chanting and calls him “the descendant of Yachimata”.   Yuuri informs Kaminohime of what’s happening in regards to the construction happening around the seal, and Kaminohime informs him that 1,500 Tayutai are sealed within this site and if it were to be broken the world would fall into chaos. Kaminohime continues informing Yuuri that the seal can be neither moved nor destroyed; Ameri retorts that her dad and other people will be troubled because they can’t continue work, but Yuuri says that they’ll just have to talk with the contractor so they understand since this isn’t something humans can decide upon for their own convenience. Kaminohime asks Yuuri to continue to protect this place and Yuuri says he’ll do what he can; Kaminohime continues saying that as long as Yuuri can remember those feelings, the day will come when Tayutai and humans can coexist and comments that Yuuri resembles “that person”.

All of a sudden, the earth shakes and an unknown Tayutai questions the coexistence of Tayutai and humans. Things appear to get a little dangerous and Yuuri instructs Sankurou to take Ameri away from the site. Ameri tries to start up her bike and leave, but unfortunately there are Tayutai under her bike which eventually leads to Ameri accidently crashing her bike into the seal; thus breaking the seal. The seal breaks in half from the collision and ominous black Tayutais escape; Kaminohime calls out Kageharu’s name and informs Yuuri that according to the old contract, she will leave everything to the descendant of Yachimata. From the broken seal comes a shining ball of light, and Kaminohime asks Yuuri to look after this child; as the light fades away, a small girl with white hair and fox ears appears carrying a large mallet. The small girl begins chasing down the small Tayutais and whacks them with her giant mallet; though to Sankurou and Ameri, it looks like she’s hitting nothing. The small Tayutai recognize the small girl as Kikurami-sama and the small girl tells the Tayutai to remember that attacking humans is unforgivable. The Tayutai understand and leave; when Yuuri asks if it’s ok to let them go, the small girl says they won’t cause any problems……probably.

In the sky, the unknown Tayutai gather and the small girl recognizes them as Ouryuu and Houou. The Tayutai question the form of the small girl and ask if she failed in taking a form. The small girl claims that she chose this form, but the Tayutai claim that the strength in her eyes is 3rd rate as the eyes show the strength of the soul. The small girl protests this and claims she’d happily let herself die in the process of re-sealing them, but the Tayutai are surprised at this remark as they say she had an easy time of sealing them 500 years ago. The small girl comments that the 3 Tayutai in front of them are the strongest and most troublesome ones that were sealed. One of the Tayutai launches an attack at the small girl; who is able to block the attack, but she is eventually overpowered and knocked out. The three Tayutai leave, and comment they’ll have more fun with her at another time. The small girl’s hair turns from white to a bright brown, and Yuuri takes her home to care for her.

On the TV, there are signs of the mischief that the Tayutai are causing, and at Yuuri’s home the small girl is still unconscience. Yuuri and his father decide to take care of the small girl as they believe her to be the personification of the god their shrine worships; though Yuuri is charged with the actual duty of taking care of her. Yuuri has Sankurou escort Ameri home and goes to the small girl’s side. She wakes up hungry, and Yuuri gives her some rice balls that Ameri made; though she prefers to eat the sweet marshmallows over eating rice. The small girl comments that her body isn’t complete yet so she’s exhausted; so she’ll be better after some rest. The small girl thanks Yuuri, calling him Yachimata; though Yuur corrects her telling her his name is Mito Yuuri. The small girl tells him it’s a nice name and Yuuri thanks the small girl, calling her small Kikurami-sama. Though the small girl corrects him as the current Kikurami and her are different from each other; to which Yuuri remarks that she needs a name then. The small girl is excited at the prospect of Yuuri naming her, and decides to call her Mashiro after looking at the marshmallows she was eating. The small girl seems to like the name, and the small Tayutai in the room call her name.

Mashiro comments that Yuuri is good around girls, which Mashiro claims is rare for guys around Yuuri’s age. Mashiro asks Yuuri if his wife and him are getting along, and Yuuri question’s how he could have a wife when he’s only in high school. Mashiro comments that 500 years ago, it’d be normal for a man of Yuuri’s age to already be married. Yuuri understands that coming of age was earlier back then, and Mashiro asks him if it’s normal to marry late now. This conversation eventually leads to Mashiro telling Yuuri that she wants to be his bride, to which Yuuri replies that they should wait for her to grow up first. Mashiro makes them both take an oath on it and Yuuri agrees; Mashiro then proceeds to kiss Yuuri and begins to glow a little, completing the promise. Mashiro tells Yuuri that she wants to live with humans and was born to do so, and falls asleep telling Yuuri this. In the city somewhere, one of the Tayutai is in a thrash heap being mocked by its peers and swears revenge against Kikurami.

Back at Yuuri’s house, Yuuri is surprised to find a naked young woman in the room where Mashiro was. The young woman asks Yuuri not to stare, and Yuuri is surprised that she knows his name; Ameri comes into the room and thinks Yuuri brought a woman home. Eventually the figure out the the young woman is Mashiro, and Mashiro proceeds to introduce herself as Yuuri’s bride. Yuuri is surprised by this and has no idea what is going on; Mashiro, a little upset, asks Yuuri if he’s forgotten yesterday’s promise. Mashiro explains that it was due to Yuuri’s kindness and gentle care that her powers had returned her to this form. Yuuri’s father comes in and is estatic to have a beautiful girl live with them. He gives Mashiro a kimono to wear, and Mashiro comments that it’s filled with warmth and love. Yuuri comments that it really suits her, and Mashiro blushes. Yuuri’s father replies that his dead wife would be happy; Yuuri tells Mashiro that the kimono used to belong to his mother, and Mashiro says that she feels the weight and responsibilities that the kimono carries. Mashiro bows down, addreses Mashiro and his father (as father-in-law) and tells them she will devote her life for the Mito familiy. Mashiro then changes topics to the 3 Tayutai and informs Yuuri they should discuss battle preparations. Mashiro tells Yuuri that following the old contract she will entrust the future to him, Yachimatsu’s descendant.

Opinions:

What can I say, Mashiro has captured my heart and I want to blog this series to share Mashiro-ism with the world!!! Now I know I’m always using words and phrases like “caputred my heart” or “love” when it comes to anime heroines and overall moe characters, but I’m sure you all know that when it comes to anime heroines and 2D idols; all of us fans are polygamists!!!! Since episode 2 is out, I’ll quickly get on it. As for those of you into those  comdey romance series or simply eroge gone anime series, check this one out!
