Summary:

Outside of Wataru’s video rental shop, Sonia tries to reassure herself that she’s only here to take Wataru up on his offer to rent a video. She tries rationalizing; telling herself that liking a 13-year-old boy is bad from a social standpoint. For Sonia though, it was love at first sight; Sonia casts aside her hesitation and goes in under the pretense of confirming whether or not her feelings are genuine. As Sonia walks into the store and Wataru greets her; Sonia tells him she’s only there to rent videos like Wataru promised. Wataru pulls up a bunch of DVDs he set aside for her and hands Sonia one he highly recommends and smiles. Sonia turns red and comments that’s probably an anime since he’s a kid and Wataru smiles and tells her to just watch it; Sonia comments to herself that showing such a smile is unfair. Sonia slowly starts accepting the fact she likes Wataru and is about to tell him something, but is interrupted when Saki falls; Wataru goes over to her and asks her if she’s alright. After watching the two interact with each other; Sonia goes out and pumps Hayate for information regarding Saki. Hayate tells Sonia that Saki is an important person to Wataru. Sonia drops Hayate from the shock; meanwhile pair of thugs (who are the same thugs who tried to kidnap Nagi) make a getaway after mistakenly kidnapping Saki, as Wataru was the actual target.

Hayate chases after them on a bike, and Wataru tries calling the police; Sonia asks Wataru if he likes his maid, Wataru tells her Saki’s like family so she’s important to him in that sense. Sonia asks if he’d risk his life to save her, and Wataru replies he would; Sonia asks that if Wataru would kiss her in exchange for saving Saki. Wataru hesitates a little, and Sonia reminds him of her strength and states that it’d be faster for her to beat the kidnappers than the police. Wataru gives in and kisses Sonia on the cheek and tells her he’s paying up-front so she should definitely save Saki. As the kidnappers are escaping, Sonia appears in front of them and smashes the car in two; with Saki gently falling out the back half of the car. The front half crashes into a pole and as the two kidnappers get out; Sonia prances at them joyfully imagining she’s embracing Wataru. In the aftermath the two kidnappers are beaten up and stuck in a garbage can, and back at Wataru’s store Saki is commenting how she gets bloodthirsty every time she sees Sonia and Wataru get along.

At Hakuō Academy, Yukiji and Shiori are having a conversation regarding boyfriends; Shiori is talking about some problems she has with her boyfriend (Eight) and asks Yukiji for advice since she assumes she also has one. Yukiji tries to cover up the fact that she doesn’t have one by claiming she’s playing around with a lot of guys. As Yukiji is walking the halls she starts thinking on why she doesn’t have a boyfriend and compares herself with Hina, and wonders why she’s so popular. Yukiji visits Nagi and begs her to invite her to a social party so she can bag a rich boyfriend. Klaus comment that they haven’t hosted a social party in a long while and starts making arrangements for a party tonight, and Nagi asks Hayate to prepare an escape plan for tonight; Yukiji’s talk about boyfriends gets to Maria and she also starts thinking about the subject.

Yukiji visits Kaoru for advice on relationships because she mistakenly believes he plays dating sim games and is thus a master of relationships. After a small discussion, Kaoru asks Yukiji if she really needs to go to a social party to get a boyfriend since there should be someone closer to her to consider. As Kaoru tries to hint that he’s referring to himself, Yukiji tells him she has no interest in a 2D otaku like him and Kaoru kicks her out of his home. As Yukiji is considering how to go about getting about acting at the party, she runs into Izumi, Miki, and Risa; the three advise Yukiji to view an example and have Hayate and Izumi perform a confession. After some pranks and jokes, Nagi asks Yukiji if she even wants a boyfriend and Yukiji replies that she would rather drink than have a boyfriend. Nagi tells her there’s no point in striving for something she doesn’t want and she and Hayate take their leave. Yukiji takes Nagi’s advice and goes to the party and drinks to her hearts content and has apparently gone on a drunken rampage at the party. Meanwhile outside Maria still thinking about the topic of boyfriends.

Opinions:

Well another episode down and we’re a step closer to “A Cruel Idiot’s Thesis”. The episode got in two chapters of material, and I really enjoyed seeing Wataru and Sonia interacting together, particularly the part where Sonia is imagining she’s embracing Wataru as she beats on the two kidnappers; also I just ate up the part where Sonia bargains with Wataru to save Saki in exchange for a kiss, it was just like “who can refuse an offer like that for a face like that”.  Also the whole Saki jealousy thing looks like a potential future story plot so if they go into that it’ll be interesting. As for Yukiji going to Kaoru for advise, it reminded me a little of “The World God Only Knows” because she expected advise that works in a game world to work in reality and certainly in the case of Keima it seems to work somehow. Really felt bad for Kaoru, I mean the girl you like just flat out saying she would like a “guy like you” one of the few phrases that makes you contemplate suicide (remember girls, use tact when rejecting someone!!). Next episode focuses on Hayate getting a gift for Hina’s birthday and seems to follow the manga pretty close, so I’m looking forward to watching. (Just finished finals so I’m still in the process of “catching up”)
