Summary:

Late at night on the outskirts of Hakureiryou Academy, a lone girl is cosplaying as “Magical Diva” a mahou shoujo on top of a tree branch; until the branch breaks and she falls. Luckily Akiharu just so happens to be under that tree and unintentionally catches her. The girl upon noticing Akiharu screams and runs away, leaving behind her prop staff. The next day the young girl, whose name is Pina Sformklan Estor, realizes she forgot her staff. Dejected, she walks outside and tries to search for it. While looking for her staff she comes across Mimina and becomes smitten; at that moment though, an announcement comes for Pina to go to the Principal’s office. At the principal’s office, Pina finds Akiharu there; apparently Akiharu talked to Mikan-sensei about the incident since he wanted to return the staff, but had no idea about the owner. At first Pina denies that the staff is hers and replies that she doesn’t know what it is, but when Akiharu mistakes the name of the character, Pina immediately and angrily corrects him. Akiharu asks her if Magical Diva is an anime, and Pina immediately starts talking about how wonderful an anime it is and continues to rant on about it and how there’s no one at school who she can talk to about it; little does she know that the principal is secretly watching her through a crack in the door.

While walking with Akiharu, Tomomi informs him that Pina is the first princess of the Sfol Kingdom. This gets Akiharu worried because he was treating Pina like a child, and Tomomi takes this chance to increase Akiharu’s worries and tells him it could lead to an international incident. This causes Akiharu to run away looking for Pina. Pina meanwhile, is with the principal looking at Magical Diva goods; apparently Kaede is a sponsor of the show. Looking through all of the Magical Diva goods gives Pina the idea to make a doujinshi, and she asks Kaede to help her with it. Kaede agrees at first, but after noticing Mikan watching her Kaede freezes up and declines Pina’s offer. Pina starts thinking about who she can get to help her aside from Kaede, and at that moment Akiharu comes into the room to apologize.  Pina takes this opportunity to recruit Akiharu; this leads to a meeting with Tomomi. Akiharu recommended Tomomi to help manage the doujinshi, and since it’s Pina asking Tomomi accepts, though she does flash some ill intent to Akiharu. The first topic on the doujinshi is to gather some pretty girls; Selnia notices them talking and comes over to ask them what they’re discussing. Tomomi takes this opportunity to recommend Selnia, but Akiharu disagrees since he feels Selnia won’t agree to help. Selnia agrees to help after being frustrated about being left out of the conversation.

After gathering some other girls, PIna shows them the Magical Diva anime; and immediately has them undress to try on the costumes. Akiharu comes in to bring in some props, but comes in while they’re still half undress. While most of the characters have assembled, Pina notes that they’re still missing them most important character. At this moment, Pina notices something and runs off; she comes back dragging Mimina with her. Pina explains to Mimina that she wants her help making doujinshi, but Mimi tells her it’s impossible since she has to a deadline coming up for a classical picture. Mimina apologizes and runs off; Pina has a chat with Akiharu and Tomomi later in the afternoon. During this conversation, Selnia comes to withdraw from the doujinshi since she didn’t realize the book would end up being a gravure photobook; which causes Pina to feel depressed. The next day Pina tells Akiharu that anime and games are popular in her country because it’s always snowing in her country, so indoor activities are more common than outdoor activities. This is why Pina wants to use entertainment to increase the reputation of her country, and that’s why she’s in Japan to learn about anime. Akiharu is impressed by her goal, and Pina continues telling him all the wonderful things she’s learned from anime. Akiharu later begs Selnia to come back and help with the book; Selnia still reluctantly declines, but Akiharu continues to bow his head and ask and tells her he’ll do anything she asks. This finally gets Selnia to agree.

Later that night Pina comes ringing on Mimina’s door in full cosplay; Mimina pretends not to be home, so Pina leaves a letter under the door. Mimina reads the letter and it essentially says that Pina will leave the opening 5 pages of the book open for Mimina and she’ll be waiting for her. The next day Shingo is going crazy over the Magical Diva photo book and starts talking through his pants. Shingo gets so worked up that eventually Akiharu has to calm him down by knocking him over the head. Mimina comes over to ask Akiharu why Pina wants her so much; Mimina feels that having her won’t help her as much as she thinks, but she was happy being invited since she likes Magical Diva. Akiharu tells her that if she likes it, she should work on it; she doesn’t need any other reason than that. Later that evening, Mimi finds Pina and hands her 5 pages of a Magical Diva Doujinshi she drew and asks her if she’s in time to participate. Pina tells her she believed that Mimina would join her, but gets confused when Mimina hands her the manuscript for the doujinshi. Apparently when Pina asked for Mimina’s help, she wanted Mimina to cosplay as a character. Akiharu asks Pina if she explained to Mimina that they were doing a photobook, and it seems Pina forgot. Pina remarks that the book will be a huge success with Mimina’s manga and cosplay pages of beautiful girls.

Opinions:

Well, it turned out that Pina just met Mimina and they become friends at the end of the episode; rather than my speculation that Pina was already an acquaintance of Mimina’s. This episode was ok, and I did appreciate how it focused on the developing friendship between Pina and Mimina. I really enjoyed the whole “becoming friends through anime” angle, because that’s how I met the majority of my friends in college. I was a little disappointed since there were no major developments outside of Pina and Mimina’s friendship. Since I think there’s only going to be around 12 episodes for this season, this means we’re a little more than halfway done with the series. In that time I want to see a little more character development with Selnia and especially Tomomi. Luckily next week’s episode seems to focus on Akiharu’s promise to do anything Selnia asks, and it seems there may be some Tomomi development too as we can see a childhood picture of her and Akiharu in the previews.

Last but not least, the ending picture this week.

(I am really getting addicted to this end of the show pictures, they just pick good pictures!)
