Summary:

Akiharu is given 2 tickets to TryAqualand by Pina for his help with the doujinshi in episode 7. That evening Selnia and Tomomi are continuing their discussion from last week, and ask each other their about respective relationship with Akiharu. Things start to heat up between the two as Selnia brings up the date between Tomomi and Akiharu, and Tomomi bringing up the kiss between Selnia and Akiharu. Before escalate further Akiharu inadvertently interrupts them to invite one of them to TryAqualand, but then notices the tension in the room and tries to leave. Tomomi stops him and asks him if it’s ok for her to take the ticket. Akiharu replies that it’s ok as long as no one else wants it; this gets Selnia to also announce her interest in the ticket.

At that moment, Kaede sends out a school-wide announcement regarding a surprise Athletics festival tomorrow. This gives Tomomi and Selnia the opportunity to compete against each other for the ticket, and Tomomi goes to the principal to request that she and Selnia be on separate teams. The news spreads throughout the school, with the meaning getting distorted. Some say that the winning team will get tickets to TryAqualand, others say that if you win you’ll get your wish granted, and others say that Akiharu will do whatever you want if you win.

The next day, the athletics festival starts off with a bang with some jets flying above the school.  Kaede and Pina provide commentary for the event, and the teams are divided into four divisions with Akiharu, Selnia, Mimina, and Sanae on the Red team; Tomomi, Daichi, Ayse, and Hedyeh on the Black team; Mitsuru, and Fou on the Blue team; and finally Shingo and  Toichiro on the white team. The first event is an obstacle course that includes hurdles for the first part and crawling under a net for the next part. Pina comments that this seems a little normal for Kaede, and Kaede reveals she initially had mines and hot tubs for this event but Mikan removed them all. Other events include getting as many balls into collection nets in the allowed time, tug-of-war with slippery floor and rope, some bizarre event involving carrying live eels, climbing a rope, eating a hot dog, and (the most notable event) the borrowing race. Selnia quickly looks at her card and drags Mikan into a dressing area and swaps clothes with her and crosses the finishing line, leaving Mikan in a tight gym uniform.

During the break Akiharu asks Selnia why she’s going so far for the tickets, and Selnia tells him she doesn’t want to lose to Tomomi. Akiharu asks Tomomi the same thing, stating that she isn’t acting like herself. Tomomi tells Akiharu that she doesn’t want to lose. With that, the last race starts.

Opinions:

There wasn’t too much story-wise this episode, but there was some good fanservice (no more than the usual, but there was service from a character that normally doesn’t provide it). Things felt a little anti-climatic with Selnai and Tomomi asserting their feelings for Akiharu, and deciding on a competition to see who gets to confess. It makes you question if they actually like Akiharu, or if they just want to win against each other in the confession. I did like seeing the whole DaichiXAkiharu angle revisited with Daichi constantly thinking about the faux rumor that you get to command Akiharu for a day if you win. The most memorable thing for me this episode is seeing some nosebleed inducing fanservice from Mikan. It’s has huge impact for quite a few reasons, Mikan normally dresses conservatively, she’s wearing tight gym clothes (for the bloomer enthusiast), and she has that dere dere feel that makes you swoon. I knew Mikan had it in her to be a strong character and after seeing her slightly humiliated with such tight fitting clothes, I’ve confirmed it, and I’ve started looking for Ladies vs. Butlers! Doujinshi. Seriously, that scene alone should inspire tens to hundreds of doujinshis!

I’m gonna stop now, I’ve become such a huge Mikan fan now…….. I can’t stop thinking about it!!
