Summary:

Keima sees Ayumi standing before him in the hallway at school. Ayumi tells Keima that she heard he got into a fight with Chihiro. Keima tells Ayumi that only opponents of the same level can fight, and it’s impossible for him to have a fight with a girl because he’s not part of the real world. Keima tells Ayumi that he’s not fighting with anyone and walks off, but falls down again due to malnutrition. Ayumi takes Keima outside and gives Keima her spare rations she uses for her track practice. Ayumi asks Keima to make up with Chihiro because she’s Chihiro’s friend. Ayumi tells Keima that she felt kind of bad when she heard Chihiro badmouth Keima. Keima questions why she would feel bad, but Ayumi gets embarrassed and knocks Keima away. Ayumi leaves, but before she does she tells Keima that the two of them have clean up duty later and reminds him to come. Elcea finds Keima and is happy to see that he looks like his normal self. Keima asks Elcea if the targets really lost their memories, and Elcea responds that they’ve certainly lost their memories of the incident but they aren’t the same as before since the gap in their hearts have been filled. With that said, Elcea once again asks Keima to save Chihiro, but Keima is still reluctant to do so.

Later Keima shows up for his clean up duty with Ayumi, but sees Chihiro instead of Ayumi. Apparently Ayumi asked Chihiro to switch with her because “she had practice”. Keima decides to just get it over with and starts cleaning. Chihiro takes the opportunity to tell Keima that while she’s not sorry, she feels she might have said a little too much. This surprises Keima, as he didn’t expect Chihiro to feel guilty, and realizes that he left an impression on her but writes it off as his imagination. Chihiro suddenly notices something and ducks while having Keima do the same. It seems that Chihiro has found another person to confess to, but she’s at a loss at how to get closer to him. His birthday is coming up and Chihiro was hoping to get an idea of what to get him from reading a magazine, but Keima tells her that if she was able to find something that easily she wouldn’t be having this problem, and starts asking Chihiro a lot of questions about the guy she likes such as his likes, personality, and what club he’s in. Chihiro doesn’t know any of the answers to his questions and remarks that she just recently found out about him. Keima tells her that it’s absurd to perform a capture without analysis and compares it to going on an expedition to the North Pole in a swimsuit, and states that he’s never neglected to analyze his targets which his why he’s 100% successful in his confessions. Chihiro tells him that those are just games, but Keima asks her if she’s ever confessed and succeeded before. This gets Chihiro worked up and she tells Keima to relate her problems to games and asks him if he’s even dated or kissed a girl before in real life. Keima starts recalling some of his captures and tells her that they weren’t a big deal while blushing. This shocks Chihiro and she asks him if actually has. At this point Chihiro and Keima are drawing a lot of attention, so Chihiro grabs Keima and ducks. Chihiro finally asks Keima to help her be successful in her confession.

Later that night Chihiro is talking to Ayumi on the phone about how Ayumi was meddling in her affairs. At school the next day Elcea is happy to hear that Keima is helping Chihiro with her confession as it would close the gap in Chihiro’s heart and they can capture the runaway spirit. Keima starts to think about it and realizes that he’s never came to the conclusion that he doesn’t have to be the lover and becomes relieved and embraces his role of supporting Chihiro’s romance. The next day after class Keima goes over the capturing route with Chihiro and declares that in 3 days they’ll reach a successful confession event, but Chihiro isn’t interested in what Keima is saying and gets up and leaves. Keima follows her, hands her a cup of hot tea, and pushes her into the guy she likes; thus creating an event where Chihiro spills hot tea on her crush, Yuuta. This pisses Chihiro off, but Keima explains that a bad impression is still an impression and will make it so that he remembers Chihiro. This doesn’t comfort her, but she starts listening after Keima tells her that they need to make Yuuta aware of Chihiro’s existence.  Keima gives Chihiro a stack of papers to study up on for her confession. Chihiro walks home with the stack and is frustrated that she has to go through so much work. As she walks home she sees Ayumi practicing in the rain, and really giving it her all.

At school the next day, Yuuta recognizes Chihiro as the girl who spilt tea on him. This gets Chihiro excited and she immediately tells Keima. Keima tells her that it’s to be expected and has Chihiro talk to Yuuta to have him more aware of Chihiro. Over the next few days Keima and Chihiro are spending a lot of time together planning her confession.

One rainy day, Keima is going over a plan with Chihiro, but Chihiro is spacing out looking at Keima. Chihiro tries having a casual conversation with Keima about Americans and umbrellas, but Keima gets frustrated and tells her he doesn’t care and he doesn’t watch TV as all his screens are for games. Keima then tells Chihiro to prepare because she’ll be confessing tomorrow.

Opinions:

This episode covers chapters 30 and 31 in the manga. There were small changes made, and I have a slight feeling that they might have a slight diverge in the story, but we’ll see. So far the story feels like the typical movie where one party helps another party with their love problems only to fall in love with each other. Although in this case I’m sure it’ll be one sided. On another note, I love Keima’s Godzilla reference; it’s been a while since I’ve seen or heard from that ol’ reptile. Makes me want to do a little marathon starting with Godzilla vs. King Kong! Not much else to say for this episode, but I did love seeing Ayumi again and I love that they used her for this week’s preview pic. The picture looks a scene from an eroge where you’re about to score in gym. I mean look at her! Her shirts on the floor as if to implied she took it off!
