Summary:

Subaru and Kinjirou go to the local water park with Kanade and Kureha. Kanade informs Kinjirou that she and Subaru were held hostage before at this same park and that the reason why Subaru drifted away from her was because her disappointment in being unable to protect her. The incident also traumatized Subaru and gave her a fear of knives. The trip goes when Kureha and Kanade get kidnapped. Subaru is told to come alone, but after seeing how panicked Subaru got at the sight of a knife Kinjirou knocks her out and opts to go alone to save Kureha and Kanade. Kinjirou faces off against the kidnaper, but isn’t able to do much against him, meanwhile Subaru awakens and rushes off to Kinjirou’s side. Kinjirou is taking a beating and is about to get finished off, but Subaru arrives at the last moment and saves him. It seems Subaru has gotten over her fear of knives and defeats the kidnapper. After rescuing Kanade and Kureha, it’s revealed that the whole incident was staged with Subaru’s dad playing the role of the kidnapper. Kanade and Subaru make up with each other, with Subaru finally aware that Kandae wants her by her side as her friend as well as her butler. After being pummeled, Kinjirou wakes up and finds himself in Kanade’s mansion. Subaru embraces Kinjirou and tells him she was really scared because she thought she wouldn’t see Kinjirou again when he left. Kinjirou apologizes to her. Kureha rushes in after Kanade told her that Kinjirou would most likely be hugging Subaru. Kureha tells him that it’s unfair for him to hug Subaru when he’s already going out with Kanade. Subaru snaps after hearing this and Kinjirou jumps out the window and runs away and grabs Kanade on the way for insurance.

Opinions:

So like I thought, this episode gave us a small glimpse of Subaru and Kanade’s history. Just like I thought, they were much closer in the past than they are currently.  I hope we’ll see more of this in future episodes as it seems to be a real concern for Kanade that they aren’t as close as they used to be.  On the other side of the episode, it feels like this is the moment that Subaru really falls for Kinjirou. Next ep review will be out shortly, and I’m looking forward to the development at the end of the episode.
