Summary:

One day as the Nuko Club is re-releasing an animal back into the wild, Airi notices Sana acting strangely when Sana is acting more overprotective on Miu and gets between her and Shingo.  On the walk back Airi confronts Sana on her behavior, but while Airi is aware of Sana’s feelings it seems that Sana is ignorant of them. The next day at school during lunch, Hayata asks Shingo if anything happened since the atmosphere of the group seems strange. Miu asks Sana how “Shingo” the cat is doing and Sana tells her that he isn’t too energetic lately and wonders if it’s because he’s in a new home. After at the clubroom, everyone is cleaning up the room and Sana and Shingo are paired to wash out some of the cages and tanks. After Sana washes her hands, Shingo hands her a handkerchief; which is the same handkerchief that Shingo handed her before and Sana seems to be in a slightly better mood afterwards.

When Shingo and Sana arrive back at the club, they see Yatsuzuka-sensei, whom informs them that “Miu” the cat hasn’t been doing well in her new home and has been exhibiting the same symptoms as “Shingo” so she brought her to the clubroom since maybe she’s just not used to her new home. After seeing “Miu” wander around the room, everyone understands that “Miu” is looking for “Shingo” and Sana tells everyone that she’ll also take in “Miu” so that “Miu” and “Shingo” can be together and runs out the room with Airi running after her. Airi asks her if she can take care of 2 kittens that bear the names of the person she likes and her rival in love, but Sana corrects her and tells her that Miu is the her senpai that she admires. Later Yatsuzuka-sensei calls her “friend” regarding the cat, who turns out to be the school principal.

Back in the clubroom, Shingo and Miu are alone and Shingo asks her why she’s against Sana taking in both kittens and Miu reveals to him that Sana has a cat allergy. If isn’t so severe that symptoms show right away and if it’s just being around cats in the clubroom then it should be fine but it would be bad if she were constantly exposed to cats. Shingo tells her he understands since he suffered from infantile Asthma as a child. Miu comments that Sana is pushing herself too hard, but Shingo tells her that she’s the same since they both sacrifice themselves for animals. Miu tells Shingo about the first time she met Pan-nya when she was younger and saw Pan-nya with a larger “cat” that looked a lot like Pan-nya and they were very timid. In her 2nd year she met Pan-nya again, but this time she was alone and more scared of humans than before. That’s why Miu says that even Pan-nya will one day be re-released back into wild. Shingo stares affectionately at Miu and embraces her and confesses his love for her. Miu asks him if he’s fine with her and asks if he’s going out with Sana and Shingo tells her that was a misunderstanding. Miu reciprocates Shingo’s feelings and the 2 embrace each other. It starts to rain and Shingo notices that the door to the clubroom is open.

Sana is outside in the rain holding “Shingo” the cat and remembering her time with Shingo and starts crying. Airi holds an umbrella over Sana and tells her that if she cries the guys won’t like her. Airi embraces Sana and tells her that just for today to cry to her heart’s content and forget about Shingo.

Opinions:

Wow so we get a straight out confession this episode. I am wondering if this makes Miu the clear winner or if there’s time for Shingo to end up with someone else. It just feels like Airi’s story isn’t finished yet. On that note, she’s earned a lot of points this episode consoling Sana even though she’s also in a position to be crying herself. Seeing Sana so vulnerable this episode made her more easy to sympathize with and in the end made her more likeable and I would definitely try her story route (once I learn enough Japanese and import the PSP game). I think we only have 2 or 3 episodes left of the series, and I think there should be a conclusion of sorts next episode since it’s the title of the episode is the title of the series “Mashiriro Symphony”. It’s normal for gal game adaption animes to conclude everything and have 1 status quo episode before the series is over. So who knows? Maybe Shingo will end up with Miu? Like how Rin ended up with Asa in the Shuffle! anime adaption?
