Summary:

Members of the Nuko club have noticed Pan-nya  wandering around as of late and wonder why Pan-nya is going around town. After recounting their sightings with each other they realize that the descriptions of the cats are different and they realize that they possibly saw a different cat. Sana then bursts in and announces that she saw “Mama-nya” in other words, Pan-nya’s mom; in addition she also saw a smaller cat as well. The Nuko club visits the spot where Miu first met Pan-nya and Miu places a hair ornament that has Pan-nya’s scent down on a stump and they wait to see if Pan-nya’s mother picks up on the scent. After waiting they see a large cat and a smaller cat approach the hair ornament and call out. Afterwards everyone talks about the incident and ponder about returning Pan-nya. Sakuno asks Miu if she’ll feel lonely, and Miu announces that they’ll return Pan-nya next weekend and mentions that they’ll also eventually graduate and leave.

Later that day Airi and Sana talk at the park and Airi comments at how strong Miu is since she’ll be parting with Pan-nya who’s been with her for so long and is able to send her off with a smile. Airi recounts how things are going badly with the school merger and there is a strong chance that merger won’t go through. Sana notices Airi looking down and asks her what’s wrong. Airi comments that it’s strange that usually Sana is the one talking to her about her problems in the park, but this time it’s the other way around.

Meanwhile back in the club, Shingo comments that Miu is acting overly energetic but it seems that Miu is hiding her sadness of having to let Pan-nya go. The next day at school Airi informs everyone that the merger is in danger of not happening and asks everyone to do what they can to help out. Someone mentions that Airi was against the merger, and Airi responds that while she initially was she changed. She continues saying that she was scared of Yuijo changing, but recently there’s someone she knows that’s going through hard times and Airi thought they were really strong and wants to be like her. She isn’t sure if change is good or bad, but she doesn’t want to be a coward. Eventually everyone shows their support and they decide to hold a rally to get support.

After school when Shingo and Miu are alone in the club, Miu comments on how strong Airi is. Shingo comments that Miu is the person Airi respects. Miu tells Shingo that she isn’t that strong and tells him that she really doesn’t want to give Pan-nya back and comments that she’s horrible and breaks down crying. Shingo embraces her and tells her that he’ll always be by her side. At home Miu watches her mother play with their cats and asks her mother if she was afraid when she got their cats since they have a shorter lifespan compared to humans and it’s sad when they die. Her mother tells her that while it’s sad she’ll always have memories of them in her heart, but everything keeps changing so the have to move on. She compares to experience to when Miu eventually graduates and moves out. Even though it’ll be sad, they’ll still have good memories, and if you dwell on the sadness then everyone around you will be sad. Her mother’s words resonate in Miu and she musters up the resolve to return Pan-nya.

The next morning Airi meets with her mother with some petitions and asks her mother to work hard to make the merger official. After a few heart to heart words with each other, Airi’s mother mentions that the merger was the right choice since her daughter is starting to look more like a woman now. The following weekend the Nuko Club goes out to the woods where they saw Pan-nya’s mother and bring Pan-nya. They see Pan-nya’s mother come out and Pan-nya is ecstatic to see her. Pan-nya stares at her mother and then turns around and jumps into Miu’s arms. Shingo asks her if she’ll be all right and Miu tells him that the time she spent with Pan-nya is her precious treasure and she’ll never forget her time with her. Everyone says their goodbyes to Pan-nya and see her off as she goes running to her mother and sibling. The three cats return to the wild and Miu thanks Pan-nya for all the memories.

The following year it seems that the merger went through and Sakuno has changed into her new Yuijo uniform and things are continuing in the Nuko Club with Sana as the new club president. Miu and Shingo are together outside and Miu tells Shingo that she wants to start making memories with him. After some time passes by, Shingo and Miu return to the spot where they returned Pan-nya and notice a tail with a hair ornament on it and smile at each other.

Opinions:

So it’s a Miu ending after all. The Miu wrapped up Miu’s route fairly well with her parting ways with Pan-nya, and also becoming closer with Shingo. I liked how Miu’s mom compared the cats leaving to Miu moving out. I suppose that would resonate more with Miu. Overall everything ended nicedly with Miu able to say good-bye to Pan-nya with a smile on her face, and Pan-nya reuniting with her mom. Heck even though Airi didn’t get the guy, she really grew as a person and it’s reflected in the show with her and Sana really becoming close friends. Overall the series was done fairly well, and at this point the most I could ask for is an OVA where we get an Airi ending. But who knows? Maybe we’ll get a second season that uses the new PSP version of the game? We did get small cameo from PSP exclusive character, Onomiya  Yutsuki, at the end of the episode. Well the show had a good run, so I’m not pushing too hard for a 2nd season, but I definitely want to see an Airi ending so I need to strengthen my Kanji-reading skills and buy the PSP game!
