A Kannagi Festivl in the US?!? That Would be Nice!

The update this week for the Kannagi Fansite was pretty interesting. In it is a video of the director expressing his wish to have a Kannagi festival in the US as they did in Japan. I am thrilled with the idea; what it would look like and you would do I have no idea, but the prospect itself is enough to get me pumped! If the idea actually goes through it’ll probably happen at one of the big anime conventions. I hope everyone who hasn’t already joined the club, will join soon; same with the DVD. We need to show some support for this series if we wanna see some of the fan love they’ve been showing in Japan!

Kannagi Fansite Update: We Can Finally Get a Membership card!

The membership card design

The membership card design

After hearing about the whole membership card thing that the Japanese fans got, we North Americans finally get one too!…………but it’s a print-out version. Though if you print it out in color and laminate it, it’ll look really nice. When I printed mine out I was the 1834th member. So hopefully we can print this out and it’ll come with some perks later on!

Kannagi’s Official Fansite’s Latest Announcement is American Distribution as Expected

kannagi_vol1_3d

Well the latest announcement on Kannagi’s official fansite came after 2 weeks of waiting. As expected, the announcement was that Kannagi was now licensed in North America and will be distributed by Bandai Entertainment. The entire series will be released in 2 volumes, and if you order both volumes from Amazon or Right Stuff you’ll get a Kannagi T-Shirt. In addition, the first 7 episodes of the series will be streamed on Animenewsnetwork, and the remainder of the series will be released around the time of release of the 2nd volume. This was a predictable announcement and I’m happy to be getting a Kannagi shirt with my DVD, but I’m still hoping for a membership card. It may seem like a small thing, but the sentimental value of a membership card for a club is nostalgic and has great sentimental value (or so I believe). Maybe if a lot of people order a DVD that’ll happen…………

Kannagi Promo Video up on Official Fansite

So this week, they put up a Promotional video up on the Official Kannagi fansite. Could this possibly mean that the series will be licensed soon? Hopefully someone good will pick it up; it’s a shame Geneon no longer exists in the US market, but I’m fine with Bandai and Funimation picking it up since they do a good job. Well regardless of who picks it up, if the people who are working on the fansite also work on the localization it should be fine. I mean the Haruhi and Lucky Star localization went great, particularly the extras that went inside the limited editions and I hope we can expect as much from a Kannagi localization.

PS. If you’re wondering why I didn’t put ADV as a licensor I’d want to license Kannagi, it’s because I don’t care for ADV for a few reasons. They’re like the Microsoft of anime licensing to me; sure they do a lot, but there’s no heart. It feels like they have a quantity over quailty business plan, and while it works for others it simply doesn’t work for me. The other bigger reason is because of articles like the ones found here. I’ll let you form your own opinion on it, but as an anime fan  I think ADV’s behavior is unacceptable in this matter.

Kannagi Website Update: Videos Added

This week the Kannagi Official fansite added, 2 videos. One is a video of a Nagi cosplay dancing; apparently in the coming weeks, a dance contest will be announced. The other video features the drawing process of sketching Nagi.

So a Kannagi dance contest eh? I can see girls doing it, and I can see guys doing it; though for the guys it’ll either be ridiculously funny, or ridiculously disturbing………… I believe I’ll con a few friends into doing it while I tape them and judge if I can make something doable. For guys, the obvious choice would be to have an effeminate male cosplay as a girl and do it. There’s also the option of cosplaying as Jin, Akiba, and Daitetsu and dancing in a suggestive manner (Kannagi dance, Hard Guy style!). Anyone think they’d enter a Kannagi dance contest, I assume the choreography will be based on Nagi’s moves in the anime opening.

Kannagi Official English Fan Site Up and Running!

Official English Kannagi Site Open!!!!

Official English Kannagi Site Open!!!!

For those of you who haven’t been checking up on the Kannagi English site; there’s been a few updates! First up, there’s a main page now; Second, there’ll be weekly Thursday updates! As every Thursday passes, the site will be a step closer to completion and hopefully that’ll mean that us English-speaking fans can get some of the goodies that our Japanese brethren have been offered. Namely I’m thinking of a nice membership card as they have in Japan. It’s about time those things made a come back! I hear of all those cool things are grandfathers had like “secret-decoder rings” or “special badges” by being in those little clubs for things like the Lone Ranger or you know the “Merry Marvel Marching Society”. From what I’ve heard at Animenewsnetwork; Aniplex plans to give us some membership cards! Hopefully it won’t be limited numbers, and anyone lucky enough to get one; well let’s hope they’re at least willing to take a few snapshots to show the rest of us what we’re missing. Well this is all early talk; let’s just hope that we can all get one! As the Thursdays roll by, I’ll countdown to when we can start registering on the site.
