Summary:

Elcea is in the theater with the unconscious Drama Club students and the escaped spirit. Elcea notices that the sprit is targeting everyone to replenish its energy. Haqua arrives to where recognizes the spirit as the one she let get away. Keima and Elcea notices that this particular spirit seems different from the other spirits they’ve captured; particularly that it has a face, and Elcea wonders if it’s at level 3. Haqua notices that the spirit’s movements have stopped so she tries to detain the large sprit usisng the spirit-capturing jar. But while Haqua is trying to get the spirit into the jar, the spirit takes control of the unconscious Drama Club students by using the openings in their hearts to control them. The controlled students pin Haqua down and sshe drops the jar. Haqua tells Elcea to restrain the students because they’ll return to normal if the capture the spirit, but Elcea has a hard time dealing with so many of them. Haqua tells her to use her Hagoromo to hold them down, but Eclea tells her she can’t target that many. Elcea eventually gets overpowered, and the spirit manages to escape. Haqua tells Elcea that multiple targeting using the Hagoromo is one of the basics, and tells her that she doesn’t need her help anymore and she’ll handle the rest herself. Before Haqua can leave, Keima tells her to trust Elcea because Haqua will fail by herself, and that Elcea was telling the truth when she said she captured 5 spirits. Haqua still believes that’s a lie; especially when Elcea can’t even use her Hagoromo properly. Haqua comments that she on the other hand has always excelled at school and has been a model for everyone, and become the valedictorian for her graduating class. With that Haqua tells Keima that she’s more than capable and doesn’t need Elcea’s help and leaves to chase after the spirit.

Keima tries to get Elcea to chase after Haqua, but Elcea is upset that Keima was with Haqua. Especially because Keima refused Elcea’s request to go look for the spirit together. Keima tells her that there were some circumstances, but tells her to forget it and chase after Haqua, but Elcea just acts like a child and tells Keima that Haqua will be fine by herself. Keima gets fed up with Elcea and drags her along. Meanwhile Haqua is still looking for the runaway spirit and comments that all the simulations she succeeded in have no correlation to actually capturing runaway spirits. Eventually she starts wondering why she started failing ever since she left school, and remarks that she can’t even find a partner. Haqua starts remembering how she used to always be praised, but this only depresses her more. Suddenly something attaches itself to Haqua.

Elcea’s spirit sensor goes off and it leads Eclea and Keima to the roof where Haqua is. Keima and Elcea arrive on the roof, but Haqua doesn’t seem to recognize them and starts attacking them. Haqua captures Keima on her scythe, and Elcea recognizes that Haqua is being controlled by the runaway spirit. Things don’t look good for Keima and Elcea as the possessed Drama Club students surround them and the possessed Haqua has Keima. Haqua takes the spirit-capturing jar from Elcea and she starts getting surrounded by the possessed students. Elcea starts panicking at having to face so many people but Keima tells her she just  has to face one person Haqua. Keima reminds Elcea that runaway spirits use the openings in a person’s heart to control them, and tells her that Haqua is troubled right now and the spirit used this opening to control her. Keima tells Elcea to fill the void in Haqua’s heart, but it’s not easy as Haqua won’t let Elcea anywhere near her. Elcea tries calling out to Haqua, but she shows no response. Eventually Haqua walks up to Eclea and tells her that it’s not easy and that she’s always put forth her best effort, but in the end she couldn’t even capture the runaway spirit the got away from her. Haqua comments that she didn’t want to meet Elcea and she can’t do anything.

Elcea is surprised that Haqua had an opening in her heart and resolves to save her. Elcea gets attacked by Haqua. but Elcea tells Haqua that it’s ok and embraces her and reassures Haqua that she’s a great demon and that she’s always been a role model. The influence of the spirit is gone, and Haqua comments that ashamed that she had to be cheered up by Elcea, but replies that she feels relieved. Haqua and Elca then work together to capture the spirit. Haqua tells Eclea to caputure the spirit, but Elcea is surprised and panicked at the idea. Haqua then confesses that she hasn’t even caught one spirit yet, and the two go in to capture the spirit. Haqua supports Elcea by holding back the possessed students, and Elcea gets in close and captures the spirit in the jar.

In the aftermath, Haqua takes the spirit back with her because Elcea insisted on it because it was Haqua who drew it out. Haqua apologizes to Keima for the trouble she’s caused and allows him to shake her hand. Haqua whispers to Keima that he seems like a nice guy since he never told Elcea about her not having captured a spirit. As Haqua leaves she tells them that she’ll repay her debt and that they’ll meet again. Once Haqua is gone Elcea asks Keima what Haqua whispered to him, and remarks that Keima’s been acting cold to her today. Keima tells Eclea and that she did well today, and Elcea offers to buy Keima an omelet-soba bread but Keima tells her it’s too late now as it’s night time. Elcea then offers to buy him the bread tomorrow. The next day Keima and Elcea run into Haqua at the Bread stand.

Opinions:

Another faithful Episode. This one covers chapters 25 and 26 in the manga. I don’t think they added more dialogue, but it seems like the whole Elcea and Haqua interaction was longer than what I remember in the manga. It’s probably because of the extra images, but it worked for me. They really portrayed how sad and frustrated Haqua was of her inabilities despite succeeding in school. It’s kinda metaphoric isn’t it? I’m sure all of us knew people who did great in school but struggle in the real world and vice versa. That whole superiority compelx, but with a little inferiority complex is exactly why I love Haqua! Speaking of which, I absolutely love the preview pic this week. It’s a provocative Haqua that even Keima can’t ignore! Just looking at it makes me wish there were a “World God Only Knows” dating sim and go for the Haqua route! Based on the title of the next episode it looks like we’re onto the next capture, but I’m hoping we’ll get some more Haqua time before that!
