Summary:

One morning Elcea decides to make lunch for Keima, but due to her being adept at cooking devil food her cooking isn’t well received by Keima. The lunch resembles a tentacle monster with a bento box for a head with many eyes. Keima tells Elcea that normally a troublesome character like her would normally have a specialty, but Eclea doesn’t have anything that makes her special and questions if she’s even a devil. Keima continues and compares Elcea to a bug-ridden game and calls her a buggy-devil. At school Elcea is crying over what Keima said. Her friend Chihiro tells her not to listen to what her useless brother says and shows Elcea a picture of a gorgeous looking cake from a magazine. Chihiro tells her if she makes something like that, then even Keima will be impressed. Elcea becomes determine to make a cake and show Keima her abilities as a chef.

Elcea ditches class and has a dummy stand in for her. Elcea goes to the Home Economics room and starts trying to cook the cake from the recipe in the magazine. The only problem is that Elcea confuses all the ingredients with their Hell counterparts (ie she uses sugar from hell instead of “regular” sugar). Elcea gets confused when she needs to use eggs and wonders what type of egg she should use and brings out different eggs from Hell. One of the eggs hatches and a Mandragon, a monster akin to a green dragon with some plant features on its head, starts chasing Elcea. Arouind Lunch-time Elcea manages to get away from the dragon, but runs into Keima while she’s whisking her meringue. She tells Keima that she’ll show him her true power as a chef and walks off while laughing like an upper-class housewife. After finishing baking and decorating the cake, Elcea only has to put two strawberries on top to finish the cake. Unfortunately the Mandragon comes back and the Home Economics room blows up.

While all of this is going on, Keima is dealing with their homeroom teacher Kodama. Apparently Kodama doesn’t like Keima because he feels he doesn’t pay attention in class and attributes his attitude to the fact that he gets perfect scores. Later that day Kodama subs in for Keima’s PE teacher and gets his revenge on Keima by having the class run 20 laps. Since Keima doesn’t have much stamina, this proves difficult for him. Kodama rubs his face in it and tells him he shouldn’t play games all the time and tells him that the person in last place will have to run another 20 laps. He gets to Keima though when he tells him that people who can’t tell the difference between games and reality become criminals. Keima tells him no to compare the game world to the real world, and tells him that people who even put the two together are the ones who can’t tell the difference and continues running. Keima’s statement pisses Kodama off even more, but before he can say anything else, the Mandragon appears and chases Kodama. On the way home, Keima comments that Elcea must’ve been the cause of today’s disturbance. On his way inside the house he finds Elcea’s cake in the bushes.

In the evening, Keima’s mom receives a call from Kodama informing her of a home visit regarding Keima. After the she hangs up the phone, she switches to “Yankee” mode and yells that he’s always complaining about her son, and wonders what his problem is. Keima’s mom takes a shower for the home visit since she’s a little dirty from doing some chores. In the bath, Keima’s mom comments that Keima’s always been a little strange and wonders if he’ll get expelled. She suddenly feels something staring at her and goes to the bathroom window to check it out, only to find Mandragon, but he flies off. Keima’s mom puts on a towel and goes to follow it, but before she can she hears a noise in the house and wonders if it’s robber rather than a peeping tom. She takes a vase and hits a shadowy figure. It turns out to be Keima who is looking for utensils to eat Elcea’s cake with.

Outside Mandragon has a showdown with Elcea’s lunch and Kodama witnesses Elcea’s lunch devouring Mandragon. Afterwards, Elcea’s lunch sets its sights on Kodama and Kodama lets out a cry. Later that night, Keima’s mom receives another call from Kodama informing her that he won’t be able to come over for the home visit today. Elcea and Keima are on the coach, and Keima asks her where she was all day. Elcea tells him she was in class with him, but comments to herself that she screwed up with the cake, but someday she’ll make a strawberry cake for Keima. Keima tells her for future reference that he hates sweets, and Elcea frowns; though we can see Elcea’s plate she used for her cake on the table and clearly eaten.

Opinions:

This episode covers chapters 11 and 12 of the manga. I think the story works better as an anime episode than a manga since it conveys the whole “their-side-of-the-story” method better. The added a little extra to the story by showing Keima’s mom side of the story; which I enjoyed as it shows her thoughts regarding her son. Apparently she doesn’t like how he is, but loves him regardless. I liked seeing Elcea’s frustrated face; I can’t tell if I liked it because its cute or if I’m slowly developing sadistic tendencies…. This week’s illustration is of Keima’s mom, and frankly she’s never looked better! There’s just something about the picture! It has adult charm, that sexy stare, clothes barely on, and even glasses! That picture just made me re-watch the episode and greatly appreciate all the fanservice they tossed in of Keima’s mom this week. Keima, I know she’s your mom, but to the rest of us she’s a woman. It’s got me looking for doujinshis starring Keima’s mom, but unfortunately there are none that I can find as of yet. Though I expect there to be some of her this coming Comiket…
