At the inn, Nakuru looks through her bag for the Butler ticket that was given to her as a prize from the quiz tournament, while Kureha and Masamune enter the outdoor bath. Using the Butler ticket that Kanade gave her, Nakuru has Subaru read her doujinshi out loud starring “her” and Kinjirou. Subaru is unaware of what the book is, but as Subaru reads it, she gets embarrassed and ends up throwing the book out the window, and Nakuru jumps out the window to save the book and ends up falling. Later that night, Kinjirou enters the bath after waking up in the middle of the night. Subaru has also entered the bath. Kinjirou asks her why she’s on the men’s side; Subaru reminds him that she’s pretending to be a boy. Things are awkward between the two, but the silence is broken when Subaru’s father, Nagare, enters the bath and Subaru quickly hides behind Kinjirou. Nagare is irritated upon seeing that Kinjirou is also in the bath, but takes the opportunity to ask him what his relationship with Subaru is. Kinjirou tells him that he’s just her friend and classmate and nothing more, but Subaru is a little upset at hearing this. Nagare feels a little relieved after hearing this, but is still irritated at seeing Kinjirou and decides to get out of the bath.

After Nagare leaves, Kinjirou asks Subaru what they really came here for as Kinjirou finds it odd for Subaru’s father to be here if it suppose to be training for his gynophobia. Before Subaru can answer, Nagare comes back in to question Kinjirou on why he found women’s underwear in the changing room. Kinjirou tries to pass it off as his, but Nagare is positive that the style of underwear is the same as Subaru’s. Nagare comes to the conclusion that Kinjirou has bathed with Subaru and proceeds to try to punish him. Subaru comes out of hiding and knocks him out, but by doing so she exposes herself and Kinjirou can see everything; which leads to Subaru knocking out Kinjirou. The next morning, Kinjirou and Nagare can’t remember what happened last night.

In the afternoon, every goes and plays at the beach. Everyone is having fun, but is seems that Subaru’s thoughts are elsewhere. In the evening, everyone attends the local festival. Nakuru explains to Kinjirou about the Yukata beauty contest, the battle royale, and the fireworks show at the end of the festival. Kinjirou walks around outside the festival to look for Subaru and runs into Subaru’s dad. Nagare asks him not to interfere, but Kinjirou tells him that he’s Subaru’s friend. Nagare informs Kinjirou that tomorrow is the anniversary of Subaru’s mother’s death and that her grave is near here. Kanade shows up and asks Nagare to enter her into the festival tournaments. Nagare leaves, and Kanade explains to Kinjirou that Subaru didn’t want him to know.

Kinjirou arrives at Subaru’s mothers grave and sees a surprised Subaru. Subaru tells him that her mother was always worried about her, and was worried that she wouldn’t make friends because she wasn’t sociable. Kinjirou tells her that it couldn’t be helped since she was pretending to be a boy and was always scared of being found out. Subaru asks Kinjirou to leave so she can be alone. Kinjirou embraces Subaru and tells her to not hold it in and asks her to tell him everything. Subaru tells him that she didn’t want to cry anymore, and she wanted her mother to meet Kinjirou because he’s the first friend she made. Kinjirou asks her if she could introduce him to her mother. Subaru formally introduces Kinjirou to her mother, but Kinjirou loses consciousness and he wakes up back at the festival. The battle royale is about to start, and Kureha explains to him that the winner of the battle royale gets some money, a large sheep plushy, and a kiss from the winner of the Yukata beauty contest. It turns out that “Punyuru” is the winner of the Yukata beauty contest. Nakuru announces to Kinjirou that she won’t let him win, because she refuses to let him kiss anyone but Subaru. Nagare also enters the competition to keep the guys away from Subaru. Kinjirou runs into Kureha and Masamune, but before they can fire any paintball rounds, Nakuru shows up drunk on cola, and Masamune explains to Kinjirou that Nakuru gets drunk on any carbonated beverages, but she gains to ability to instantly strip anyone. Nakuru quickly takes Kinjirou’s belt and Masamune’s bra and panty in a flash. Nakuru goes on a rampage and completely strips Masamune and Kureha. Before she can “attack” Kinjirou, Kanade shows up and holds Kinjirou’s glasses hostage. Kanade throws Kinjirou’s glasses into the lake and Nakuru chases them and falls into the lake. Kanade gives Kinjirou his glasses back and reveals she threw a fake. Kanade hugs Kinjirou and tells him he was pretty cool when he tried to win the contest, but tells him she can’t let him win and shoots him. Kanade ends up as the winner of the battle royale, and “Punyuru’ kisses her on the cheek.

Kinjirou wakes up on Subaru’s lap and the fireworks show starts. Kinjirou and Subaru talk, and Subaru tells him that it’s a little sad that summer is almost over. Kinjirou tells her it’s fine because they’ll always be friends, but Subaru tells him that she doesn’t want to be just friends anymore.

Opinions:

Well that was an entertaining episode. I expected it to be a beach episode, but we also got the benefits of an onsen episode as well!  The highlights of this episode were Subaru’s frustration in the bath when Kinjirou said they were “just friends”. It’s already implied that she likes Kinjirou, she’s just starting to realize it herself. It makes the ending pretty interesting with Subaru telling Kinjirou she doesn’t want to be just friends. This means we’re finally at a confession! We’ll see where this goes, but I’m certain it’ll turn into a situation where either Subaru chickens out of confessing or Kinjirou misunderstands the confession. Considering teh personality of the two, it’ll most likely be the former. There were a lot of cute Subaru moments this episode, and I kind of understand Nagare’s feelings of want to snipe down all those guys that are after your daughter. Hopefully we’ll have more cute Subaru moments next week, especially since it seems to be a maid episode!
