Summary:

After the events of the last episode where Hayate walked in on Nagi in the bath, Nagi having Hayate dry her hair while she was naked, and Nagi kissing Hayate on the cheek; Nagi is now so embarrassed that she can’t even bear to see Hayate, so Maria gives Hayate a million yen for lodging fees and has him leave the mansion for a few days. As Hayate is walking on the street in his street clothes; he runs into Yukiji and Hayate comments to himself that he’s already run into someone with bad money habits. Before long Himuro and Sonia show up, guided there because they sensed a large amount of money within the vicinity. Desperate and surrounded, Hayate jettisons his jacket in the air and let’s the money-grubbing trio that there’s a hundred thousand yen in the pocket; while they chase the jacket, Hayate makes his get away. While Hayate is walking, he consistently runs into people that need money for their own problems. By the end of it Hayate is left penniless in the same park he met Nagi at, on  a snowy night; Hayate comments to himself on how much his situation is like that time, but he brought it on himself this time and there won’t be a rich girl to save him either. As he sulks in the snow, an umbrella covers head with Hinagiku behind him holding it. As it seems Hayate will freeze if he stays out, so Hina asks Hayate if he’d like to come to her house. At Hina’s house, Hayate is taking a bath and thinks about how he’s using the same bath as Hina and blushes. When Hayate gets out of the bath, he’s greeted by Hina and her mother. Hina’s mom takes an instant liking towards Hayate and tells Hina she’s completely fine with having Hayate for a son-in-law, but Hina tells her that she doesn’t have that kind of relationship with Hayate. Hina’s mom keeps asking if it would be ok if Hayate tried on a few skirts and cat ears since she thinks Hayate would look good in them; much to the embarrassment of Hina. Hina washes the dishes as she apologizes for her mom; though Hayate doesn’t mind and comments that she’s a kind and interesting mother. Hina asks Hayate what he was doing out in the snow, and wonders if it’s because he can’t go home and Hayate responds that he can’t come back for 3 days. Hina’s mom comes in and asks if Hayate would like to stay the night; when Hayate asks if that’s ok, Hina’s mom says it’s fine. Hina mentions that there’s a girl around Hayate’s age in the house (referring to herself), but Hina’s mom is asking Hayate if he’ll where a frilly dress that Hina won’t wear. Though before she can get it, Hina takes Hayate out to the back to her sister’s old room where Hayate will be staying.

Hina tells Hayate that her sister won’t be back for a while, so he’s free to use the room. Hayate apologizes for imposing, but Hina says they should help each other in times like these and there’s also something she’d like to ask him and tells him she’ll be back later. As Hina leaves Hayate comments that though it’s nowhere near as big as the mansion, Hina’s house is pretty large and wonders how Nagi is doing. Back at the mansion Nagi is commenting on how big the room seems with Hayate gone; Maria asks her to call Hayate back if she’s feeling lonely. Nagi replies that she can’t as she still needs time to recover from her embarrassment, and Maria comments to herself that Hayate has it tough. Back with Hayate, he’s doing one hand push ups using his index finger. Hinagiku walks in on him and comments on how he’ll have to take a bath again if he works up a sweat like that; as she glances around she notices some homework he’s worked on and comments on how diligent he is. As Hina is looking through Hayate’s homework, Hayate is thinking about how Hina just came out of the bath and how he can smell her shampoo and remembers how he’s thought that Hina is a beautiful girl. When he comes back to reality Hina is asking him if he’s paying attention as she points out the mistakes he’s made on his homework. Hayate apologizes and asks what it was Hina wanted to ask him; Hina changes the subject and has him check on the mistakes he’s made on his homework. As Hina is tutoring him on his homework, she thinks to herself that what she wanted to ask Hayate was in regards to what happened on Valentine’s Day and if he’s going out with Ayumu now. She stops herself though, and thinks it’d be pointless to ask and tells Hayate to forget it and there’s no use in doing it now. Hayate misinterprets this and assumes she’s talking about his homework and wonders if his results were that bad. That night Hina is wondering to herself why she’s so bothered with Hayate, even telling herself that Hayate isn’t her type and decides her feelings are those of when your friend gets a girlfriend and reassures herself that Hayate is nothing special to her. At that same time, Ayumu is in bed and dreaming about Hayate.

The next morning Hina goes to wake Hayate up for school, but it seems he’s been up all night working on homework problems as a result of what Hina said. During breakfast Hina asks Hayate if he’ll stay the night again and replies that her mom would like him to stay too, and Hayate responds that if it isn’t any trouble he will. Hina takes this opportunity to ask Hayate if it’s alright to stay at her house since he’ll be leaving a cute girl (referring to Ayumu) alone; Hayate responds that in a situation like this it’d be best to leave her (referring to Nagi) alone. Back at the mansion Maria gets some guests who have come to repay the money Hayate gave them; Maria deduces that they are Hayate’s lodging fee and wonders where Hayate is staying. At school, Hayate is in his school uniform and in the student council room with Hina; they’re greeted by Miki who comments that it’s rare for to see them together in the morning. Hina tells Hayate not to let anyone know he’s staying at her house.

Back at the mansion Maria is calling Hayate’s cell phone and tries to ask Hayate where he is staying, but Hayate is still nervous about losing the million yen and changes the subject and hangs up on Maria. Maria decides to investigate and dresses up in a Hakuō uniform to infiltrate the school, but draws a crowd at school on account of how attractive she is. Maria decides to put on some glasses to blend in, but is even more popular; things work out when she puts on thicker glasses though. Maria meets Hayate in the elevator of the clock tower, and is a little surprised that Hayate doesn’t recognize her. Hayate does recognize her, but feels Maria would wear such a ridiculous disguise so it must be someone else; with Hayate not recognizing her, Maria comments to herself that she feels like playing a prank on Hayate.

Opinions:

Ok, we’re a step closer to Hina’s birthday in the show and coincidently a day away from Ayumu’s birthday; which is May 15. Story-wise we’re slowly making progress between Hayate and Hina; other than that I got what I wanted from this episode, namely Hina in an apron dress and Maria in a school girl outfit (wearing glasses even! Double Fetish Finish!!!). I’m surprised on the drastic change they made in Hina’s mom’s design; though it almost seemed like they were changing it quite a bit in the manga. The only other change from the manga is the removal of the scene where Hayate is undressing in the student council room with Miki there. I kind wanted this scene there because I like how Miki’s like “Is this some kind of H-game?” Speaking of which, Hayate’s current “route” is like that isn’t it. If he hadn’t spent all the money then he wouldn’t have gotten the Hina “flag”. If he still had money left though; who’s to say what would’ve happened, he could have met a new girl and opened up another route! or easily have gotten the death flag…………….
