Summary:

Kanon has vanished. Elcea starts to panic, but Keima tells her to calm down look carefully at the stage. Kanon is still there, but appears translucent. Kanon starts muttering that she’s still invisible. Keima goes up to Kanon and tells her that her she’s wrong and that he was listening to her song. Kanon doesn’t believe him and brings out the stun guns again and tries to shock Keima, but he’s able to dodge the attempt. Kanon tells him that he was sleeping during her performance, but Keima tells her that was because her song was so beautiful that he felt like he was in heaven. Kanon leaves and tells him to come back tomorrow. Keima starts wondering if Kanon’s translucent appearance was the work of the runaway spirit, but Elcea tells him that it’s because he was ignoring Kanon. Keima tells her that he wasn’t just “ignoring” Kanon; he was trying to get Kanon to tell him about her problems because “A girl’s worries are your trump card, get it if it costs you your life!”. Nothing will begin unless Keima knows what’s bothering Kanon; so Keima has Elcea gather information on Kanon.

Meanwhile, Kanon is in a cab and remembering how she used to be unnoticed before she was an idol. That night, Keima is watching Kanon’s performance on TV with Elcea; Kanon suddenly Kanon stops singing as she catches a guy on his cell phone and not paying attention to her. Kanon catches herself as she notices everyone reacting to her sudden stop, and starts singing again. Elcea notices that something is wrong and decides to go down to the station to find out what’s wrong with Kanon, but Elcea is greeted with the harsh reality that it’s not so easy to meet idols once she gets to the station. Elcea notices Kanon’s fans going to congratulate Kanon on a job well done as her car passes by. Elcea tries to follow, but one of Kanon’s fans tells her that this is as far as she can go.

At home, Keima’s playing his PFP in the bathtub ‘till he hears his mother yell at Elcea for disappearing late at night without saying a word. Elcea apologizes, but Keima’s mother tells her how worried she was about her and hugs her. Keima’s mother then yells at Keima for not saying anything about Elcea going out. Keima then asks Elcea what she was able to learn, and Elcea reveals to Keima about how Kanon used to be part of an idol group called Citron. Apparently, the group was originally created to promote its leader Lime. Kanon ended up being more popular, though. Keima tells Elcea that Kanon’s circumstances are irrelevant to capturing her, and declares that he’ll start capturing her tomorrow.

The next day after school, Keima is complaining about Kanon’s absence. It seems that Kanon is busy shooting, so she wasn’t able to go see Keima. Upon reading some lines, Kanon starts remember how she had a small presence in the past and how people failed to notice her. Back at school, Keima receives an e-mail from Kanon; apparently Keima snuck his e-mail address in the case of the CD Kanon gave him. Keima goes to the shooting site to meet Kanon.

When Keima arrives, Kanon appears transparent and asks Keima if she’s invisible and if her song reached him. Keima tells her that her song was good, and Kanon instantly recovers and goes back to usual self. Kanon asks Keima if it’s ok to keep e-mailing him since he’s the first person she’s talk to from school. Keima agrees thinking it’s the perfect position to hear Kanon’s worries. Kanon immediately starts e-mailing him and with a screen full of “Yoroshiku ne” (in this context, I’m going to go with the translation: I’ll be in your care). Kanon continues e-mailing Keima; with Keima coming to meet her. Kanon’s problems consist of things from “her new song falling down the charts” to  “I can’t swim”.

Dealing with Kanon’s problems is proving exhausting to Keima, even though he’s having Elcea carry him to Kanon every time.  Keima meets Kanon for another one of her problems, but it turns out she just wanted to see Keima since she had free time. Later Kanon shows Keima the venue she’ll be performing at and gets excited and declares that she’s no longer invisible. When she looks back, she sees Keima on his PFP again. She starts to scold him, but notices Keima is playing one of her songs, and asks him if he likes her songs and asks him to praise her if he does. Keima pets her head and Kanon enjoys being petted by Keima. Kanon leaves for her performance and Elcea arrives believing Keima is close to capturing Kanon.  Keima believes otherwise and walks away. Keima comments that having an idol for a girlfriend may seem like a happy ending, but belives something is missing. Kanon’s manager comes out screaming for people to look for Kanon. Upon hearing this, Keima tells Elcea that he can see the ending.

Opinions:

This episode perfectly follows chapter 9 of the manga. I’m finding that the anime is doing a great job in fitting one chapter of manga per anime by adding more content to the episode. In some cases this isn’t a great thing, but for KamiNomi it’s great! For example, this episode used the extra time to focus on Kanon’s backstory (actually they’re giving a little more focus on the heroine’s backstory in the anime), which is great in fleshing out her character and making you identify with the character more. Also it could be my own fondness for Kanon noticing this, but I believe this is the first capture where Keima is displaying signs of a crush such as his stuttering and blushing at the appropriate moments. Of course you can argue that he’s just acting the part, but I’d like to believe otherwise. If you tie that into what’s currently happening in the manga (chapter 121) you could say this would explain Keima’s current seriousness. On a side note, the way Keima uses his PFP for e-mails, etc. is what I imagined having a PSP would be like when I first bought one.
