Summary:

Kinjirou is working part-time at a maid café at the behest of Masamune one summer day. A lot of the workers at Masamune’s job got sick so she asked Kinjirou to come help. Kinjirou is surprised that Masamune works in a maid café, and Masamune tells him that he should be grateful that she let him copy her summer homework and even got him a job. Kinjirou tells her that he is grateful, but when he called her before she seemed like she was in a panic. Masamune tells him that it was because she was surprised (but really she was excited that Kinjirou called her), and even tells him that she knew it was him because she set up a special ring tone for him on her phone. The manager comes in and teases Kinjirou about being Masamune’s boyfriend, but he corrects her and tells her that they’re just friends.

Kinjirou takes a break, and thinks about how Subaru told him that didn’t want to be just friends. When Kinjirou tried asking her about it, Subaru told him forget about it. Kinjirou starts wondering about it. When Kinjirou comes back from his break, he sees Kanade. Kanade had apparently bought some time to spend with Kinjirou and Masamune after she had ran away and ditched Subaru. Kanade starts teasing Kinjirou and Masamune, while Subaru is running around looking for Kanade. Subaru gets mistaken for a café butler and gets taken inside to a butler café, and has to start working to pay for the damage she caused when she broke their door. Kureha and Nakuru visit the maid café at Kanade’s behest to do some part-time work. Kureha plays a fighting game with Kanade, but loses to her. Eventually Kinjirou passes out when accidentally gropes Masamune’s chest. The manager asks him why he fainted, and Kanade tells her it’s because Kinjirou has a maid fetish. Everyone believes Kanade and start treating Kinjirou oddly.

Eventually Masamune tries to prove that Kinjirou doesn’t have a maid fetish by showing him her garter belt, but she’s embarrassed to do so. Kanade reasons to Masamune that it should be fine to show Kinjirou her garter belt since they’re just friends. With that Masamune begins to show her garter belt to Kinjirou, and Kinjirou’s inner maid-fetishist starts to come out, but everything is disrupted when Subaru finally comes into the café looking for Kanade. Kanade and Subaru leave, and Kinjirou chases after Subaru to ask her about what she said before, and Subaru tells Kinjirou that it wasn’t a confession….. she just wanted to be best friends. Kinjirou is a little embarrassed, but more than pleased to be Subaru’s best friends. Subaru takes her leave, but seems a little disappointed, and leaves with Kanade. Kinjirou returns to the café and has a chat with Masamune. He agrees to stop by to work at the café occasionally and Masamune thanks him and runs away, but leaves her phone behind. Kinjirou recalls that she set up a ring tone for him and checks to see what it is, and a music box-like melody plays. Masamune catches him, and Kinjirou apologizes and runs away from Masamune.

Opinions:

I didn’t have many complaints with this episode, after all it was a maid episode! Well if you’re not into maids, there wasn’t much to the episode other than seeing Subaru back down from her confession. So at this point I’m thinking we’ll most likely get a clear confession by the end of the first season, but I’m starting to doubt that since they’re still building Kinjirou’s relationship with the other characters. It still feels like they need to build up Kinjirou’s relationship with Kanade before Subaru confesses to him. As it stands, Subaru has little to no competition for Kinjirou. I mean it’s heavily implied that Masamune likes Kinjirou, but she’s moving a little too slow, and it seems like Subaru’s more honest with her feelings than her; though granted that Subaru is more ignorant of her own feelings as she seems to be unaware that her feelings for Kinjirou are of love.  We’ll see what happens next episode.
