Summary:

Nagi has a dream on the popularity polls of Hayate no Gotoku; the results being:

10th: Saginomiya Isumi

9th: Harukaze Chiharu

8th: Aizawa Sakuya

7th: Nishizawa Ayumu

6th: Segawa Izumi

5th:  Mysterious Girl (Actually Athena)

4th: Ayasaki Hayate

3rd: Sanzenin Nagi

2nd: Maria

1st: Katsura Hinagiku

The shock of coming in 3rd causes Nagi to wake up. As Nagi wakes up, she’s relieved it’s a dream as it’s unthinkable for her to be ranked behind Hina and Maria (though the results are actually true); with that Nagi goes back to sleep. Elsewhere Sakuya is with Isumi, who is trying to exorcise a spirit that causes one to have a dream that they placed 3rd in the Hayate no Gotoku popularity polls. Isumi has some difficulty due to her powers failing. The next day Hayate is sent to Isumi’s to give her a get-well gift since Nagi heard she wasn’t feeling well. When Hayate gets to Isumi’s home, he sees a spaced-out woman who turns out to be Isumi’s mother at the entrance gate. After meeting Isumi’s mother and grandmother Hayate starts to understand how Isumi can think she is disciplined, since her mother and grandmother are more air-headed than her. When Hayate inquires on Isumi health; Isumi tries to explain that her powers aren’t working week, but is interrupted by a spirit. As Isumi chases after the spirit, Isumi’s mother Hatsuho tells Hayate that Isumi’s power is unbalanced as she’s young but her power is many times stronger than herself and her mother’s. According to Hatsuho’s fortune reading, Isumi’s power can be restored using the blood of a 16-year-old, strong sturdy, effeminate, unlucky-since-birth, whose name starts with “Ha”, works as a butler, young boy who is pushed onto the verge of death. Hayate feels conflicted as he’s unsure whether to step forward because he’s concerned on the part that has “verge of death”. Hayate decides to help Isumi, but Isumi declines because she feels this situation is her own fault so she doesn’t want to involve Hayate.

Isumi starts to get attacked by the spirit she was chasing, but because of the loss of her powers she is unable to due to the loss of her powers; fortunately Hayate saves her by attacking the “main body” of the spirit (which is playing video games). As Hayate leaves Isumi’s he offers to help her again, but Isumi rejects the offer. As Hayate leaves, he’s being tailed by someone. As Hayate is walking, he notices a box of kittens and a sign saying “If you don’t take them all in, they will die”; as Hayate is distracted by the dilemma someone attacks him from behind. Hayate is able to avoid the attack though, the attacker says they were close and leaves with the kittens. As Hayate walks further, he meets Maria; as they’re walking the attacker from earlier discretely gropes Maria and Maria believes its Hayate. The attacker uses this to try to attack Hayate again; once again Hayate is able to evade and goes after his attacker this time.

At Isumi’s house, Isumi is asking where her great-grandmother is and her mother tells her that she was out trying to get Isumi’s power back; possibly to go kill Hayate. This has Isumi worried and she goes out. Hayate is battling with his attacker; the fight seems to go on until Hayate kicks the mask off her face revealing the face of a small child. The child starts crying saying all she wanted to do was kill him, so he didn’t have to kick her in the face. She starts getting made and gets serious; just as it looks like Hayate is in danger, the little girl collapses and becomes shriveled. As Hayate looks at her confused, Isumi reveals that it’s her great-grandmother and she uses the blood of those on the verge of death to maintain her youth. Hayate asks if she’ll return to normal if he gives her some blood, Isumi tells him she will but he doesn’t have to since she got what was coming to her. Hayate tells her he doesn’t mind, but wonders how to get himself on the verge of death. Isumi’s great-grandmother tells her it’s not a problem and latches her mouth onto Hayate’s head and tells him she’ll suck his blood till he’s on the verge of death.

Opinion:

This was an Isumi-based episode, and her Isumi fans it certainly delivers. There were all sorts of cute Isumi expressions this episode; my favorite being Isumi’s expression after Hayate saves her from the spirit and she blushes a little (too cute for words!).  I assume the polls this episode are based on the latest polls since I can’t imagine Athena’s or Chiharu’s popularity based on what’s happened in the anime so far. I believe Chiharu’s popularity to be based on people like me and that fact she can now be considered a “maid character”. Next episode seems to be the start of the “Hot Springs Arc” so I guess we’re in for an Ayumu episode in the near future, so I hope you Ayumu fans are ready for it! After that arc, the next big one would be the “White Day Arc”; I’m really a sucker for these kinds of stories (least in Hayate no Gotoku). I’m hoping the season will be able to get to the point where they introduce who Athena is, and I’m pretty sure we’re about due for a new ending.

Maria should have won, seeing as she’s easily the best character. Oh well. And yes, this is the first time I have posted here, and yes, I got here randomly, and, yes, it’s true, my site has this same layout.
